How to Store Honey: The Ultimate Guide to Freshness & Quality
Keep your World of Honey jars tasting great and looking beautiful with these simple tips!
Why Proper Honey Storage Matters
Honey is a natural, living food with a long shelf life—but only if you store it right! Many of our customers care about raw, high-quality honey, so a few good habits will help you preserve the taste, texture, and nutrients of every jar. Plus, you’ll avoid unnecessary waste and get the most from your purchase.
Is Crystallized Honey Bad? Not at All!
Crystallization is a natural process where honey becomes solid or grainy. It does NOT mean your honey is old or spoiled. In fact, it’s a sign of pure, raw honey—just like ours! Different varieties crystallize at different rates, and it depends on temperature and storage conditions. If your honey crystallizes, it’s easy to fix (see below).
Best Ways to Store Honey at Home
- Use the original, tightly sealed glass jar (just like we ship!)
- Keep at room temperature (64–75°F / 18–24°C)
- Avoid direct sunlight and moisture
- Never refrigerate—cold speeds up crystallization
- Always use clean, dry utensils to dip or scoop
Troubleshooting: Common Storage Issues
Honey crystallized? Place the jar in a bowl of warm water (not boiling) and stir gently.
Honey darkened or changed flavor? It’s likely been exposed to heat or light, but it’s still safe to eat.
Don’t microwave honey! High heat can damage its natural enzymes and flavor.
How to Restore Crystallized Honey
- Place your honey jar in a bowl of hot water (no hotter than 110°F/43°C)
- Stir occasionally as the crystals dissolve
- Repeat as needed—your honey will return to liquid form and stay delicious!
Final Tips from World of Honey
- Store in a cool, dry place—pantry or cupboard is perfect
- Raw honey lasts for years if stored well
- Crystallization is natural and reversible
