Scientific Swarm Bait was scientifically formulated to mimic the honeybees’ Nasonov Pheromone.

Swarm Bait is used to attract swarming bees into your empty hive or swarm trap.

Many beekeepers will sell you lemongrass extract as a swarm lure. While bees are attracted to the smell of lemongrass, it is not an effective swarm lure by itself.

Honeybees are attracted to a specific combination of pheromones. They use these natural chemical scents to communicate with each other, and they can detect them from over a mile away.

Swarm Bait combines two distinct pheromones scientifically proven to attract swarming bees. We have also added additional compounds which occur naturally within all healthy hives.

The pheromone attractant comes sealed in a small plastic vial. Each vial contains 1.25 ml of liquid. There is no need to open the vial, just insert the entire unit into the swarm trap. The attractant will slowly permeate the special plastic vial for a time-release effect that will last the entire swarm season.

Preparing Your Swarm Trap

1. Select a Swarm Trap

The swarm trap volume should be approximately 35-40 liters (about the size of a standard deep hive box.)
The entrance of the trap should be 1-1/4 inches in diameter.

2. Bait the Trap

Add frames with foundation to your swarm trap. If you have dark old foundation this is best, as the bees can smell the old hive resources.
Insert the plastic vial of Scientific Swarm Bait between the top bars of the frames about 3/4 of the way to the back of the hive.

3. Position the Swarm Trap

Place the swarm trap 8-10 feet above the ground.
If possible place the trap so that the entrance faces Southeast.
